Established in 1978, Sumaiya Ladies Arabic College was born out of a deep concern for the advancement of Muslim women’s education. A dedicated group of intellectuals recognized this critical need in the community and took the initiative to found the institution, laying the groundwork for what would eventually become a beacon of learning.
In its nascent stages, the college faced significant infrastructural hurdles. With no proper facilities of its own, the institution was forced to operate as a part-time school. Classes were conducted during the evening hours in various rented buildings. Despite these difficult circumstances, our founders’ commitment to education remained steadfast, and this modest arrangement sustained the college for over a decade.
The trajectory of the college changed dramatically when a generous philanthropist, Al Haj Abdul Hameed of Munaichchenai, witnessed the institution’s struggles. Moved by the difficult conditions yet inspired by the school’s mission, he stepped forward to donate his own land and a small building situated upon it. This invaluable contribution provided the college with a permanent home and marked the beginning of a transformative new journey.
The institution has continued to steadily grow, reaching a major educational milestone in 2021 when it officially transitioned into a full-time school. Today, we provide a well-rounded education by teaching both the Shariah and National curriculums.
